What is BPH?
BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) is also known as enlarged prostate, but the enlarged prostate itself is not really the problem. The trouble is that the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body, passes right through the prostate. As the prostate grows, it applies more and more pressure inward on the urethra, which causes the urinary difficulties associated with BPH.
A word on what BPH isn't: BPH is not prostate cancer. BPH does not cause prostate cancer, nor does it increase the chances of developing prostate cancer. However, BPH and prostate cancer can have similar symptoms, so make sure your loved one checks with his doctor. Only his doctor can tell if his symptoms are due to BPH and not another condition such as prostate cancer.

Common side effects of FLOMAX are runny nose, dizziness and decrease in semen. A sudden decrease in blood pressure may occur upon standing, rarely resulting in fainting. So when starting FLOMAX, avoid situations where injury could result. If considering cataract surgery, tell your eye surgeon you have taken FLOMAX capsules.
